When you create a course, decide early if you want to send reminders to learners who haven’t finished it after a set time. Setting this up from the start helps keep learners engaged and increases course completions.
Here is an example:
Someone enrols in your 60min course and still hasn’t finished it after 10 days, and you want to them to receive a reminder to come back and complete it.
Like any other activity, re-engagement can be added to a course by turning the editing mode on and clicking on the “+” sign in the according section to add a new activity to the course.
Re-engagement details
Under “General”, set “Reminder to complete the course”.
Under “Re-engagement details”:
- Set “notify User” = “After delay”. That will notify users a set time after they have started your course.
- Leave “Third-party recipient” empty
- Notification delay = the delay after course enrolment when you want the reminder to be sent to the participants, e.g. select “10 days” if learners should receive the reminder 10 days after enrolling in the course.
- Reminder count = 1 (learners receive one reminder after the time is up).
- Notification subject = the subject of the email that learners will receive
- Notification content is the email text. We recommend using the example provided below.
- Use placeholders:
- https://online.atingi.org/course/view.php?id=%courseid% will automatically add the link to the course.
Notification Content (user):
Thank you for enrolling in the course %coursefullname% on atingi! A friendly reminder that your course is still waiting for you. You can log in anytime and continue where you left off.
Use this link: https://online.atingi.org/course/view.php?id=%courseid% (Please note that you need to log in first to access the course)
Once you complete the course successfully, you will receive a certificate or recognition of your learning.

- Target Activity:
- Select “final Evaluation” (or last activity that counts towards course completion – so only users who have not completed it will receive it),
- Common module settings: leave as it is,
- Restrict access: course completed > NO,
- Completion conditions:
- Add requirements
- Reengagement duration: input the same duration as in “Notification sent”
The re-engagement activity is always invisible to learners on course page and will be automatically marked as completed once the configured "duration" time has passed/ once they have received their reminder.
Now you can click save and display and move on to the feedback activity.
After you have set up and saved the re-engagement activity once, no changes to the notification delay can be made. Please keep this in mind.
