As a Moodle-based platform atingi offers a wide range of functions that are customized around the core features of Moodle. The role concept is an essential part of every learning management system because it specifies the permissions of a user in a pre-defined (course) context. As a general example for the fulfilment of different roles, one can think of a teacher, who can give materials to their students, divide them into groups or hand out certificates, while the learners do not have such permissions in the course context.
The role concept on atingi is organized into three main levels and follows the principle of least privilege (users are granted only the access necessary to perform their tasks):
-
System level – overall platform administration by the atingi team
-
Category level – typically managed by responsible person for the overall e-learning project
- Course level – service providers, developers or trainers working on courses
Category level
Once you start working with atingi, your Customer Success Manager will assign category level roles to the team members and service providers that will be most involved in the e-learning project.
Category managers oversee all courses within a category and may be supported by additional Category assistants within the category or its subcategories. Category managers and assistants can work on the overall level and create new courses but are not expected to work in the courses.
Course level
For editing of indiviual courses, both category roles can add users to courses and assign course-level roles for courses within the category, including the following:
-
Course managers for coordinating the course setup
-
Course content developers for creating and updating learning materials
-
Course instructors for guiding learners throughout the course
