On atingi, we want your courses to be successful on two levels: the learning outcomes of your courses and the impact on your learners after the course has ended.
Learning outcomes show what participants learned or achieved during the course. They provide evidence that the course successfully developed participants’ knowledge and skills.
Post-course impact looks at what happens after the course. It focuses on whether participants apply what they learned and whether this leads to changes in their professional practice, work, or specific projects.
Learning outcomes can be measured through data collection that automatically happens on atingi while a learner is active in a course. The data will automatically appear on course reports and in your reports on metabase. Post-course impact requires looking beyond course completion and assessing what happens after participants have finished the course.
A participant successfully completing a course or improving their assessment score demonstrates a learning outcome, but it does not necessarily mean that the learning has been applied or created an impact.
For example, a participant may demonstrate improved knowledge in a post-assessment (learning outcome) and later use that knowledge to change their professional practice (post-course impact).
Unlike learning outcomes, post-course impact cannot usually be assessed at the end of the course. It should be measured after participants have had sufficient time to apply their learning – for example, through follow-up surveys that are being sent out a certain time after the completion of a course.
Collection of Data for Learning Impact and Experience Measuring
Measuring the learning impact and learning experience of a course in a meaningful way requires the integration of some type of survey. To make it easier for your project to report on impact, atingi is providing different options to facilitate the data collection:
1. Learning Impact and Experience Survey
The Learning Impact and Experience Survey is non-customisable and will be added to your course template by default. It collects impact and experience data during the course. It helps evaluating your learning offer and the overall experience and therefore we recommend integrating it to every GIZ project. Learn more here.
2. Application of Learning Feedback Survey
If you would like to measure the post-course impact and application of learning in addition to the learning impact and experience survey, you can simply add another short survey to your course that will be sent out some time after a learner has completed a course. Learn more here.
3. Customisable Post-Course Impact Survey
In case you have very specific indicators or goals that you would like to measure for, you can use our Customisable Post Course Impact survey template. In this case you wouldn't use any of the above-mentioned survey types. Learn more here.
