Re-use content - atingi service levels

atingi hosts several hundred courses which are mainly published as OERs, and which are in principle available for reuse. To support our partners on their reuse journey, we have established several service levels, which will be introduced below.
Please note: when you reuse content, it is your responsibility to give credit or attribution according to the license of the original course.

Level 0: reusing atingi OERs (no atingi support provided)

Courses that are published under CC-licenses grant permission to use their creative work under copyright law. To independently reuse atingi resources, you should check the license and see if it possible to reuse them. Course licenses are mentioned in the course description on atingi.

Although it is nice to inform atingi that you want to reuse content, you can simply copy content of a course (e.g., via copy paste) You do not need to inform atingi that you will copy some material. Bear in mind that atingi will not provide you with any support for copying courses in that manner.

Example: You want to reuse an atingi course in an onsite training you offer, or you want to select a few parts of the content and re-publish these in your own presentation or course. The course has been published under a CC-BY license. In your course, you can reuse the content, but credit must be given to the creator of the original content.

Level 1: reusing atingi OERs without modifying the content on atingi

Reusing (e.g., duplicating) OERs as they are published on atingi is generally possible. However, your version of these courses will be non-public, and you need to invite or enrol your own learners to your course. If needed, you can adapt the course description and course certificate to your own context.

After you identify a course of your interest in the content library, our service includes duplicating a public course (maximum 2 courses) into your private course space. You can then adapt the description and certificate in your own version of the course, always according to what its license allows and requires.

Example: In the content library, you find 1 or 2 interesting courses that have a CC-license. Your project or team needs to have access to your own users’ progress and completion data for reporting, that’s why you would like to have a private copy of this course in your own atingi category.

How to proceed? Explore the content library and send the course link(s) to your atingi account manager or reach out via the atingi helpdesk.

Level 2: reusing atingi OERs on your own Moodle LMS

Reusing (e.g., transferring) OERs as they are without any modification on your own Moodle LMS is generally possible.

Example: If you find 1 or 2 interesting CC-licensed courses on atingi for your users and you already have your own Moodle LMS, you may choose this option. Our service includes preparing up to 5 courses for LMS transfer from atingi to yours. We expect you to share the performance of the courses with us on a quarterly basis until the reuse of the course terminates.

Please note that if your LMS is not Moodle based, we currently do not offer a service that provides the smooth transition between two separate LMS. This means that we will not be able to support you if you encounter compatibility problems.

How to proceed? Explore the content library and send the course link(s) to your atingi account manager. We will then prepare a file for you to upload to your own Moodle LMS. Afterwards, you will send course reporting data back to us on an agreed basis.

Level 3: reusing atingi OERs for localisation

You might want to build upon, adapt or translate an existing CC-licensed course. You can do this for reuse on atingi or on your own Moodle LMS.

Localisation refers to the process of adapting existing educational content, including online course materials, to make it culturally, linguistically, and contextually relevant for a specific target audience or region. The goal is to create a version of the content that effectively addresses the unique needs, preferences, and educational practices of the target audience. This may include translating content, adapting cultural elements, and customizing examples, scenarios, and assessments to align with the audience’s background and expectations. Localisation often involves making significant changes to the content to cater to a specific group of learners, and the changes can be substantial. Localisation aims to save time and resources, while adapting to different contexts.

Example: You find an interesting CC-licensed course on atingi and would like to localise it, so the content will be tailored to your learners or context. Our service includes preparing a copy of a CC-licensed course (maximum 5) developed directly on Moodle (potentially produced within the Moodle H5P plugin – and not on H5P directly) for you to reuse either directly in your category on atingi or in your own Moodle LMS (please see Level 2 requirements that also apply here).

If the course was developed using any other authoring tool, our service includes discussing feasible scenarios with you and sharing course content to our best possibilities.

Please note that we do not own every source file and may not be able to transfer course pieces to you; but we can always give you an assessment.

Please also be aware of the limitations linked to authoring tools. If for example you do not have an Articulate Rise account, you simply will not be able to modify the content, even if the license allows it.

How to proceed? To assess the possibilities, you must check the license (course licenses are mentioned in courses’ description) and the production (e.g., authoring tool and whether you have access to and knowledge about the tool). Afterwards, please contact your atingi account manager to discuss your case.
